Dear Mrs. Welch and Family, I am so sorry to hear this news. I have the fondest memories of hanging around the neighborhood and in the Welch house and going to Nantucket for a couple weeks every summer with Bud and the family as kids. Dr. Welch was unfailingly kind, always patient, and incredibly knowledgeable about virtually everything we might be interested in- boats, fishing, weather patterns, navigation, you name it, traits very useful to a couple of 14 year olds feeling our oats. The day trips in the Whaler to fish the Race for Blues were unbelievably exciting, particularly when we were bouncing around in huge waves. He was so competent and calm that it did not occur to us to be afraid. Both Bud and I became boat guys later in life, and I think of our trips with Ed often. When Bud was in the hospital, he and I laughed so hard about some of those trips with Ed that people from down the hall came in to make sure everything was ok...we were thinking wow, some now seem a bit dicey!... But with Ed at the helm, we never even blinked....nor should we have. What a fabulous man and role model Dr. Welch was and I feel really privileged to have known him.
With love and condolences,

Dear Mrs. Welch, Jan and the entire Welch family,
Dr. Ed was such a welcoming and witty man. I always felt completely comfortable with him in my college years when I visited with your family. He had a way of making everyone feel included. This was a beautiful obituary and only touched on the essence of your husband and Dad. Cherish all your happy memories and know I am praying for everyone as you make your final good-byes.
With love & prayers,
