I echo what Hugh Karraker said. I enjoyed being in Edward’s presence, and had some wonderful conversations with him. He will be missed!

Photo from our screening/Q&A of All Things Bakelite: The Age of Plastic on June 9, 2016 at Westport Senior Center. Earlier that night, Edward was interviewed on NPR’s “Planet Money” about a story discussing Leo Baekeland and his creation.

He was a true knight in shining armour, with a vast energy and will. Championed my movie, All Things Bakelite: The Age of Plastic whenever he could. Loved my great grandfather’s: The religion of Science is the worship of Truth, and the worship of Truth is the worship of God. I shall greatly miss Edward. As a student of Professor Cook, I must say he was a brilliant chemist and, unlike some of his colleagues at TCC, understood Community College students are parents, employees whose pursuit of an associates degree must fit into their busy and hectic lives. He was loved by his students, may he Rest in Peace.

Ah Good afternoon. First of all, I want to take this time and say that I'm very very sad that professor Cook is no longer with us. I've never had him as a professor, but on the few times I got to talk with him, he really taught me a lot about the history of Chemistry. Also, I was interested in chemistry and thought I could study chemical engineering but Dr. Cook told me that the amount of chemistry I would need to know is a lot, so thats why I backed out of chemical engineering. Very hard and chemistry is not an easy subject to digest. But overall, just a very nice and good man. No regrets, except I wish I had professor Cook as a professor simply because he was a very well rounded individual.

Dr. Cook dedicated vast amounts of energy to his farm and college where he worked as a well-rounded scientist. He loved the natural world, good company, and conversations about classic cars, historical figures, and Europe just to name a few. He had many passions, formed many genuine friendships, and loved life. Collector of books, Jaguars, hats of any kind. Connoisseur of Scotch whiskey, British and French cuisines, and anything Beethoven. Always proud of his abilities, he admired people of great skill and knowledge. Dr. Cook was not a man of few words as he was always perfecting his writing and oratory skills.
It was very difficult to watch the reality that he built and fought for slip through his fingers in the last couple of years of his life. I will miss him tremendously.
My deepest condolences to the family.
