Edward Pycz Obituary

Edward (Ed) Joseph Pycz, 45, believed he lived seven years after his diagnosis with a rare autoimmune condition so he could help people. Ed lived a life of pride and joy before passing away on August, 19, 2014. Ed was a trained craftsman who worked his trade with pleasure and skill. He was always in high demand due to his quality workmanship which was appreciated whether he was helping friends or acquaintances. Ed was born April 14, 1969, in Springfield, MA, to Sophie (Swiszcz) and Joseph Pycz. The family moved to Windsor, CT, when Ed was a boy, and he lived most of his life there. Ed and his wife, Sandra, moved into their dream home in Granby, CT., a year ago with their children, Dylan Joseph and Sage Lynne. Ed's family was his pride and joy, and he made a point to tell Sandra every day how much he loved her and how beautiful she is. His special charm, spiced with a touch of sarcasm on occasion, generated a positive vibe that drew people to him. Ed enjoyed working as a plumber for the Eugene Steinberg Company prior to his illness. Despite health issues that forced him to retire, Ed continued to be the go-to guy for mechanical jobs and other fix-it challenges around the house and for friends. He never turned down a request to help, and his intelligence shone through in his mechanical abilities. After Eds retirement his life was dedicated to raising his children which included taking the kids to their activities, keeping track of schedules and tending to the needs of the household. After an initial adjustment period, he loved every second of his new reality. In addition to his family, Ed's other passion was his beautifully restored '66 Chevelle. He loved muscle cars and enjoyed going to the car shows at Mark's Auto. Besides his parents and immediate family, Ed leaves behind a special niece and nephew that he loved dearly, Kaitlynn and Brayden Mandeville. He is further survived by his brother, Ted Pycz; stepbrother, Paul Jasinski; stepmother, Wesley Pycz; stepfather, Fred Stefanowicz; and Fred's children, Mike and Jed Stefanowicz, and Susan Koch. Ed's family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, and at 9 a.m. Thursday, August 28, at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., in Granby. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ed's name to the Pycz Children Memorial Educational Fund, 33 Hartford Ave., PO Box 29, Granby, CT 06035-0029, or to the Churg-Strauss Syndrome Association, 82 Pine Ridge Rd., Montgomery, MA 01085. Dear Sandy and family. We are so sorry for your loss. Ed was a wonderful guy and great friend and neighbor. He was always so kind to Daniel and we were all lucky to get to know him. Daniel will remember him fondly for all the times he helped fix his bike and took him and Dylan out for ice cream. We are thinking of you and sending you prayers and strength at such a difficult time.

To Ed's family and parents- I remember Ed from family gatherings 25+ years ago at Cioci Mary and Uncle Karl's house in Chicopee. Ed and Ted were always fun to hang out with. I was very shocked and sad to hear about his passing. My family will ask God to surround you with His loving arms at this difficult time. Bless you.
