STEVENSEN, Edward Nicholas, jr.
Edward N. Stevensen, jr., aged 89, of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully at Suffield House Nursing Home on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Born on April 12, 1922, the son of Edward N. and Ethel (Evans) Stevensen of Queens, N.Y., he is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Doris L. (Stephan), their three children and their grandchildren, and Edward's sister Anne J. Galm. The extended family includes son Edward N. Stevensen III, Edward's wife Sandy, and their children, Keith Booze, Kevin Booze and Kristin Allemandi; daughter Susan J. Stevensen and her sons, Ben L. Rachelle, Jeffrey J. Rachelle, and Rocky R. Rachelle; son Jeffrey A. Stevensen, Jeffrey's wife Dana L. Trattner and their children, Reid T. Stevensen and Gina L. Stevensen; and niece Nancy Galm, and nephew Harold Galm. Edward was predeceased by his sister, Lois. Edward was a long-time member of the Congregational Church of Windsor Locks. He was actively involved in diverse church activities, serving on many committees including Stewardship and Pastoral. He served as Moderator for thirty-one years and was a key member on the Rules Committee, drafting the Church rules and bylaws. Church and community were important themes in Ed's life. Edward was well known for being generous with his time for community service. He was Scoutmaster for Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troops 84 for many years and remained active in the Boy Scouts much of his life. He served as a member of the Windsor Locks Board of Selectmen, on the Sewer Commission when the waste plant was planned and built, on the Inlands-Wetlands Committee, the Economic Development Committee and the Republican Town Committee. Edward held a B.S. in aeronautical engineering and a M.S. In Mechanical Engineering, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He was commissioned a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps (1943-1946) and served as an Engineering Officer with the Third Marine Aircraft Wing on Midway Island during World War II. Edward and Doris met at the war's end in California and married on March 21, 1946, in North Dakota. Edward's career began in Aviation Engineering as a USMC Liaison Officer with Curtis-Wright Corp., Buffalo, NY, in 1943. After discharge from the Marine Corps, Edward worked at Bell Aircraft Corp. in Niagara Falls, NY; on the faculty of West Virginia University; at Kaman Aircraft Corp. in Windsor Locks, CT; at General Electric Co. plants in Schenectady, NY, and Plainville, CT; and at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT. A licensed Professional Engineer in Connecticut, Edward began consulting work in 1958 and became a Professor of Engineering at the University of Hartford in 1963. He retired Professor Emeritus in 1992.
A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Windsor Locks at 8 Main Street on Wednesday, February 1, at 11 a.m. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. For directions or to leave an online
