HARP, Elting Elting Harp, 95, lived a long and cherished life. He embraced each day with a gentle wisdom, determination and a sense of humor. Those who knew him loved him dearly. He married Julie, his college sweetheart and love of his life, who predeceased him in 1997. Their legacy together, as a couple of 57 years, was the example of a beautiful marriage, the importance of family and their great appreciation for the little things in life. Their oldest son, Walter sadly died in November, 2005. Elting is survived by his son Ned Harp of Manchester; his daughter, Virginia Cavanaugh and husband Raymond of Simsbury, and Ilse Peter, his daughter-in-law, of Cambridge, MA., Elting loved seeing his grandchildren and their families, Matt and Alice Cavanaugh, Anne and Mark Castelhano, Sam, Lina, and little Anya Harp, Gabe Peter-Harp and Erika Peter-Harp. Elting's rich life experiences provided fond memories and stories he readily shared. He had the gift of being able to relate to everyone and discuss any subject. The youngest of eight children and last surviving, he loved to talk about his youthful days in New Paltz, NY., his enjoyment of the outdoors and his life long career in sales. His eyes twinkled most when you mentioned his own dear family. We would like to thank the Governor's House staff and residents for being an extended family through the years. They were such a great source of comfort to him and to us. In honor of Elting's wish there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place at the New Paltz Rural Cemetery, New Paltz, NY on Wednesday, January 3 at 12 noon. Friends can remember this special man through a simple act of kindness and a warm smile with those around them. February 21, 1911- December 28, 2006.
