Emmett F. Powers

Emmett "The Fonz" Powers, 57, of Wethersfield, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, with family and friends at his side. Born in Hartford to the late Thomas F. Powers, Jr., and Margaret (Gorman) Powers, he was a Newington resident for many years before moving to Wethersfield. He held numerous jobs through the HARC program, and was most recently very happily employed by The Hartford in the cafeteria. Emmett was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and earned many medals with the Special Olympics. A loving brother and uncle, he leaves two brothers Thomas F. Powers, III and his wife Jane of Keene, NH, Dennis M. Powers and his wife Judy of Southington, and a sister Nancy Powers Graham of Billerica, MA; five nieces and nephews; and two great nieces. He also leaves his devoted second family at the Maple Street Group Home. His family would like to thank the staff of the Franciscan Hospice for its dedicated service. His funeral service will begin on Tuesday, Aug 12, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Newington. He will be laid to rest with his parents in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial.
