Erwin J. Piela Sr.

PIELA, Erwin J., Sr. Erwin J. Piela Sr., 77, passed away unexpectedly in Naples, FL, on Thursday (January 25, 2008). He was born in North Monmouth, ME on August 20, 1930; moved to Canterbury, in 1955, and wintered in Naples, FL, with his beloved wife of 59 years, Lois (Gustafson) Piela. In addition to his devoted and loving wife Lois, he also leaves behind his four sons, Erwin J. Piela, Jr., and his wife Francine; John A. Piela; Brian L. Piela, and his wife Robin; Gary E. Piela, and his wife Lori; a daughter Karen J. Smith, and her husband William; ten loving grand children, one great grand child, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother Edmund F. Piela, from Otis, MA; a sister Carol A. Collins, and her husband Ronald from South Windsor, a brother-in-law, Arthur B. Gustafson, and his wife Hazel from Storrs, and a brother-in-law, Earl Lewie from Vernon. Erv worked for 40 years as a tool and die maker at Federal Paper Board in Versailles, retiring in 1987. In his early years he enjoyed hunting and fishing, in his later years traveling and camping. Erv also enjoyed being with his family, cooking for his family and friends, and trading recipes. A memorial service will be held in the near future at a date, time and place to be announced.
