Estelle DAVIS Obituary

DAVIS, Estelle S. Estelle S. Davis, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, died on Wednesday, (November 17, 2010) as a hospice patient at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 13, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Sarah (Meyrowitz) and David Schwartz. She graduated from Evander Childs High School in the Bronx and attended the Munsy and Leonie Guggenheim Dental Clinic New York, graduating as a dental assistant. On New Years Day, 1939, she married the love of her life, Albert Davis, who passed away September 19, 2003. They moved to New Jersey in 1948 and subsequently to Livingston where they became founding members of Temple Beth Shalom and Estelle became the first Sisterhod president of the synagogue. A valued leader, philanthropist, and volunteer all her life, she served as president of the Roosevelt-Monmouth Court PTA and volunteered at Saint Barnabas Medical Center where she became Director of Volunteer Services in 1969 and served until her retirement in 1988. When she and Albert moved to Connecticut in 1988, she became a volunteer at John Dempsey Hospital, Hadassah, and Beth El Temple. She leaves her adoring daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Richard Lieberfarb of Avon, devoted granddaughter Shari and her husband Louis Schwartz of Brookline, MA, loving granddaughter Rachel and husband Alex Pencu of Stamford, and grandson Seth Lieberfarb. She cherished and treasured her great granddaughters, Elissa Brie Schwartz and Ashley Mariana Pencu. Estelle was pre-deceased by her son, George Michael Davis, and a brother, Seymour Schwartz. A woman of courage, character, and an impeccable moral compass, Estelle took great pleasure in the Services for the Blind in Connecticut spending many hours listening to books on tape. She defined grace and beauty, forever concerned with the needs of others and taking great pride in her supportive and loving family. Radiant and elegant all her years, her beauty was rivaled only by her keen intelligence and embracing soul. Gratitude to River Ridge Assisted Living of Avon for their kindness, and most especially, appreciation to Masonicare and the expertise, patience, and dedication of her hospice nurse, Mary Hebb, a true angel on earth. Services will take place TODAY, Friday, (November 19, 2010) at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Ave., West Hartford with Rabbi James Rosen officiating, followed by burial at Beth El Temple Cemetery, Avon. The family will observe a full shiva period at the home of her daughter, 11 Morgan Pl., Avon 06001, beginning after the burial through the evening of Thursday, (November 25, 2010) with evening minyan at 7 p.m. If you wish to honor Estelle, a donation to the charity of your choice would be most appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to Weinstein Mortuary, Hartford. For further information, directions, or to sign the guestbook for Estelle, please visit online at www.weinsteinmortuary.com/funerals.cfm

Pamela Peck

November 20, 2010

My name is Pamela Peck and my Dad, Philip, is across the hall and down a bit (#112) from Estelle's apartment at River Ridge. I used to chat here and there with Estelle and just very much enjoyed her. She was a lovely lady. I am so sorry for your loss; although I did not really know her, I will miss her...just a very nice person...so graceful.

My best to all of you during this difficult time.

Pam
