Esther G. Gendel

1923 - 2018

Esther Gershman Gendel, 95, of Los Angeles, CA (Formerly of West Hartford, CT) passed away peacefully at her home on November 2, 2018, after a prolonged illness. She was born on January 12, 1923, in Hartford, CT, and was the eldest child of Harry and Minnie Gershman. In addition to her parents, Esther was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Isidor "Gil" Gendel, by a son Eugene "E.B." Gendel, two grandchildren Kathy and Jenny Gendel, and her brother Melvin Gershman. She is survived by two sons, Morgan and Stephen, her sister Naomi Greenberg, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Esther received a masters degree in education from University of St. Joseph, West Hartford, and taught earth science for many years at Rawson Junior High and Wethersfield High School. Long-time residents of Hartford, Manchester, and West Hartford, CT, Esther and Gil moved to Los Angeles in the late '90s to be closer to their three sons and grandchildren who had moved west. Funeral services and burial were held November 6 at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles. A Celebration of Esther's life will be held for east coast family and friends December 9th in West Hartford.
