Eugene Krygowski Obituary

Dr. Eugene P. Krygowski, 84, of West Hartford, CT passed away on Monday, April 9th at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his two sons. Gene, as he was known to family and friends, is survived by his wife Maryellen, his sons, Paul and Peter, his grandsons Joaquin and Mateo and two sisters, Adele Gallano, Agawam, MA. and Evelyn Seiffert, Cranston, RI. Gene was predeceased by his four brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Edward and Chester Krygowski; and two sisters, Julie Bernardos and Helen Janik. Gene, the eighth of nine children, was born in 1933 to Stanley and Sofie (Pisz) Krygowski in Chicopee MA. A son of Polish immigrants, he graduated from Agawam High School at age 16. Gene went onto Springfield College and after graduation, he joined the Army, deploying to Orleans, France. Gene met his future wife Maryellen Visconti while at college and they married in 1955, during his tour in France. In 1956 they returned stateside for the birth of their first son, Paul. That fall, Gene started studies at Tufts University Dental School. After graduating in 1960, the young family moved to Bloomfield, CT where Gene opened his practice. Their second son, Peter was born in 1963. As Gene's practice grew he began talks with other dentists; Walter C. Schiller, Robert S. Hall and William F. O'Meara, about joining forces and in 1973 the first group dental practice in Connecticut, Dental Associates, opened in Farmington. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Gene will be remembered for his love of jazz, good food, wine and groan-worthy jokes, all of them shared joyfully in a kitchen or around the table with his family and friends. In memory of Eugene, the family requests donations be made in his name to the CT Foundation for Dental Outreach, online at www.ctmom.org. This great organization provides charitable dental care to the underserved and uninsured of Connecticut. A memorial is planned for this summer to celebrate his life with family & friends.
