OVERSTROM, Everett L. Everett L. Overstrom, 84, of Windsor, husband of the late Albertine (Poulin) Overstrom died peacefully on Saturday (August 20, 2005). Born on December 19, 1920 in New Britain, he was a graduate of Farmington High School. He served during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corp. with the Fifth Marine Division in Pacific Operations and served as a combat infantry engineer as part of the invasion force at Iwo Jima. Everett then joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft where he held various positions in manufacturing operations for over a 36 year career. After a brief retirement he joined the Ensign Bickford Company in Simsbury until his second retirement in 1985. Despite his lifelong love for hunting and fishing his passion for fixing machinery prevailed and after a brief second retirement he joined a longtime friend and owner of the M. Swift & Sons Gold Plating Company in Hartford where he worked until his recent illness. An avid sportsman, he was a member of the Suffield Sportsmans Club and the Pistol Green Sportsmans Club. He never missed a hunting or fishing season in Connecticut or Maine and this past year he went salmon fishing in Alaska, and offshore fishing in Florida. Everett is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Arlene Overstrom of Windsor, Ray and Cathy Overstrom of Glastonbury, Neal and Sharon Overstrom of North Stonington; six grandchildren, Sondra and her husband Sean Cavanaugh, Jeffrey Overstrom, Kara and David Overstrom, Nathan and Gretchen Overstrom; two great grandchildren, Bradford and Shane Cavanaugh. He also leaves a brother, Arnold Overstrom of Portland, ME. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial with military honors will be at Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery. His family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home. Neal and family, our sincerest sympathy's go out to you and your family. Your father will always be remembered as a gentleman with the greatest love for his family. I can picture his smile and the pride he took whenever he talked of his sons or grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
