Gerard A. Guimond

GUIMOND, Gerard A. Gerard A. Guimond, 85, of Manchester, beloved husband of the late Theresa (Gregoire) Guimond, passed away Sunday, (July 13, 2008) at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born July 12, 1923, in Fall River, MA, son of the late Joseph A. and Yvonne (Raiche) Guimond and had been a resident of Manchester most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in action with the 222nd Infantry of the 42nd Div. while in Germany. He also served with the famed Rainbow Div. of the Seventh Army. Mr. Guimond was an avid Red Sox fan and he loved Horse Racing and cooking. Prior to his retirement he had worked for many years at Colt Fire Arms as a Machinist. Mr. Guimond is survived by his daughter, Rita M. Guimond of Manchester; granddaughter Sandra Jeannette of East Hartford; two brothers, Norman Guimond of Rye, NY, Paul Guimond of Southington; his sister Vivian Powers also of Southington; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Doris V. Jeannette. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Calling hours will be Thursday, 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
