Dear Janice & Joan, Nancy and Jimmy,
Wish we could cut through the hedge on Westminster Street, knock on your back door and find you all in that little kitchen. We haven't been to Hartford in many years but we can still see your mother and ours worrying together on either side of that hedge, laughing together in lawn chairs on our carport, and running to get clothes off their lines in the sudden rain. Your mom was always our shelter in the storm. Quite literally. Terrified of thunder storms, our mother shuttled us across the driveway in our pajamas on quite a few occasions and Gladys always made us feel safe and welcome. She was a dear neighbor, a lovely gentle woman, and our mother's best friend. We are grateful they had each other's support and friendship while all of us were growing up. Our hearts go out to you. Love, Susan Winslow and Diane Winslow Swan

To Mr. Mullen, Jimmy, Joanie, Janice, and Nancy,
There really are no words to say how sad I am for each of you; you have lost a piece of the fabric of your life.
Mrs. Mullen will always remain in my heart; she's been there already for for 56 years! She was a dear person in my young life. How many times did she open the door to me and my question, "Can Joanie and Janice come out and play?" Always nice, always pleasant, always kind.
When I was 9 and grief-stricken over the death of my dog, Dashie, Mrs, Mullen held me on her lap and let me cry. I don't remember the words she spoke but they were soothing, comforting, and affirming. Oh that we were all 9 years old again and could crawl up into her lap to have her tell us she understands how sad we are.
She was a special and very important part of my life and I am deeply saddened to know she is gone.
