Gladys Sellew Obituary

Gladys Rosemary Scott Sellew "Scottie" passed December 17 at age 96 after a very brief illness. The daughter of Clifton and Mildred (Bradford) Scott, she was born on September 13, 1923 and grew up in Ashfield, MA. Scottie attended UMass in Amherst and graduated in 1945 as an RN from the Springfield Hospital. In 1946 she married Roland E. Sellew, the couple settled in Middletown, CT where they raised three children. Scottie was employed as a nurse at the Rocky Hill Veterans Hospital until her retirement. Scottie loved sailing, skiing, traveling, reading and golfing. She hung up her skis at age 84 but continued her other interests well into her 90's. Scottie marveled at the "providence of God" in relation to the many blessings her family has received. She is survived by Susan Sellew (Art Stacy), Bradford Sellew, Rosemary Sellew (Rod Sedlacek), her grandson Andrew Sedlacek, brothers Roger B. Scott, Fredric W. Scott, DVM, their wives and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her brother Edward W. Scott, and his wife. Scottie moved to Lebanon, NH in 2014 to be closer to her daughter Susan. Her family wishes to thank the residents and staff of Harvest Hill for their friendship, compassion and care. In lieu of flowers the family encourages you to carry on her legacy of helping others feel better about themselves by greeting everyone with a smile.

I worked with Scottie as a young nurse at the veterans hosp. She taught me how much kindness we should have for and present to others. She was always a wonderful coworker. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Linda (Chapman) Fillion
