Gonçalo J. De Sousa

Gonçalo J. De Sousa, 89, of Hartford, passed away on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023. He was the beloved husband of 48 years to Suzana (De Castro) De Sousa. He was born in Avelal, Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1973, where he met Suzana. They lived in Hartford and West Hartford for many years. Gonçalo loved to joke around and was known as a jokester with a nickname for everyone.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Along with Suzana, he leaves two daughters Marcia Carpenter and husband Paul Carpenter, III, of Glastonbury, and Olinda De Sousa and fiancé Carlos Rodriguez of West Hartford; six grandchildren Sabrina Carpenter, Paul Carpenter, IV, Monica Bonilla, Franklyn Bonilla, Jr., Adrian Rodriguez, and Jaziel Rodriguez, along with a great granddaughter Ava Bonilla. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by five siblings Eduardo, Rosa, Silvério, Antonio and Manuel and his mother Olinda De Jesus. He was a lover of all pets especially his late devoted dogs Yoda and Lucas.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington.
