Gordon HORN Obituary

HORN, Gordon J. Gordon J. Horn, 85, died peacefully early on Friday (February 4, 2011), at home in Windsor. He was the beloved husband of Clara (Liebel) Horn for 56 years. Born in Brooklyn NY they lived in Croton-on-Hudson NY, then in Windsor for 10 years to be near their daughter. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Eleanor A. Spear and husband David L. Spear and their children Samantha, Christopher and Jonathan; son Gordon M. Horn and wife Diane and their children Olivia, Jason, and Ethan; also his sister Dorothy Candido and brother Bill Horn, and many friends. Gordon served in World War II in Europe in the 314th Field Artillery Battalion, 80th Division. The 80th was the first to arrive in Buchenwald concentration camp. He worked for 30 years as a field representative doing installation, service, sales for Electronics for Medicine, a pioneer in developing cardiac catheterization and cardiac and intensive care patient monitors. Gordon loved skiing, canoeing, sailing and hiking, and later being with his grandchildren. He had a lifetime interest in ham radio (W2WTV) starting at age 13. In Windsor he volunteered at the Vintage Radio and Communication Museum where he started a ham club station (W1VCM). He belonged to the Men's Lunch Group of the The Unitarian Society of Hartford. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, February 26, 2011, 2 p.m. at The Unitarian Society of Hartford, 50 Bloomfield Ave, Hartford, CT. No flowers. Donations in Gordon's name can be made to the Vintage Radio and Communications Museum of Connecticut, P.O. Box 894, Windsor, CT 06095.
