Gregory Singer Obituary

Gregory Singer, age 55, formerly of West Hartford, died unexpectedly at his home in Anchorage, AK on Sunday, January 21st. Born in Hartford on September 20, 1962, Greg was the son of Beverly (Dansky) and the late Irwin B. Singer of West Hartford. He was predeceased by his beloved life partner, Leslie Reeves. Greg graduated from the Kingswood-Oxford School in 1980. He received his BS in Communications from Boston University in 1984, concentrating in broadcast journalism and film. He spent most of the next decade working as a freelance photographer and location scout, living in Boston and Key Largo, FL. In this capacity, Greg worked on a number of feature films and television productions. While living in Key Largo, Greg volunteered a great deal of his time to dolphin and manatee rescue projects. During this period, he acquired a great love of the environment which endured throughout his life. He also developed a passion for practice of the healing arts, and decided to pursue a career in acupuncture and herbal medicine. Greg then moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he earned a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine at Southwest Acupuncture College. It was there that he met Leslie, the love of his life. After their graduation in 1997, Greg, Leslie and her daughter, Ashley, moved to Anchorage where they co-founded Great Land Alternative Medicine, LLC. Greg earned his National Board Certification in Acupuncture from the NCCAOM; was licensed to practice Acupuncture by the state of Alaska; and was a Charter Member of the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association of Alaska. Greg parted ways with Great Land after Leslie's untimely death in 2009, and continued his work in the healing arts on a freelance basis. Greg was a warm, compassionate and exceedingly generous person who had a need to help others and a zest for life and adventure. For 15 years, he and Leslie enjoyed a storybook romance. They built a loving home life for Ashley. They worked tirelessly toward their goal of developing a high quality, full service healing arts clinic. They refused to ever turn away any patient in need, regardless of their ability to pay for services. Greg reveled in the opportunity to help his friends and family with acupuncture treatments, herbal remedies and his custom-formulated homeopathic tinctures. He loved adventure trips to remote locations, and vacations in Hawaii. He loved animals, and was committed to doing all he could to preserve Alaska's wildlife and wilderness. He touched many lives, and will be deeply missed. Greg is survived by his mother, Beverly Dansky Singer of Boca Raton, FL; his sister and brother-in-law, Pamela (Singer Robins) and Allen Bestwick of Boca Raton; his brothers, Jonathan Singer of Boston; Stephen Baer of Littlerock, CA; and Victor Baer of Cocoa, FL; and his nephews, Andrew and Austin Robins. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association; or Alaska Wilderness League (http://www.alaskawild.org/). A celebration of Greg's life will be held at a later date.

I just heard about this today from an old mutual friend of ours. So sad. Greg was a wonderful person, and we had many good (and hilarious) times together as youngsters...And reading tributes about him, and about his many accomplishments in his post-high school life, I see that he truly was a person who made a huge impact in this world. May he rest in peace and if you see this, Mrs. Singer, may you be comforted with the thought of how many lives he impacted so beautifully
