Harold Rosenthal Obituary

ROSENTHAL, Harold S. Harold S. Rosenthal, 70, of East Hartford, husband of Paula (DeForge) Rosenthal died Wednesday (December 24, 2008). He was the son of the late Isidore and Helen (Cohn) Rosenthal and grew up in Middletown and Glastonbury. He lived most of his adult life in East Hartford. He began his career in retail but later found his true calling as a custodian for the East Hartford Public Schools, where he worked for over 25 years. There he was affectionately known as "Mr. Rosie" and was a favorite of both the students and teachers. After his retirement, he continued to work with children as a school crossing guard, a job that he adored. He was a proud member of the Masons Columbia Lodge No. 25, A.F. & A.M. of Glastonbury. Small in stature but large in personality, Harold will be remembered most for his zest for life, quick wit, lightheartedness, kind and gentle nature and his perseverance through the most difficult of life's challenges. He traveled through every day with a spring in his step, a sparkle in his eyes and a whistle or a song on his lips, spreading good cheer to everyone he encountered. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Steven Miceli, the light of his life, grandson Nicholas, all of Rocky Hill; a stepdaughter, Betty Ann DeForge of East Hartford; a sister, Dorothy Wolfe of California; nephews Barry Wolfe and his family of California and Bruce Wolfe and his family of Arizona; a sister-in-law, Hollis Schneider of Hartford; a nephew, Eric Schneider and his family of West Hartford and many relatives and friends. Harold was predeceased by his first wife, Ina (Goldberg) Rosenthal, second wife Audrey (Dunphy) Rosenthal and brothers-in- law, Harold Wolfe and Bernard Schneider. Memorial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations in Harold's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

Lillian, Steve, Nicholas and family - we're so sorry about your dad and grandpa. I wish we could say or do something to help but I know only time can do that. It might seem very hard to believe right now but some day your tears will be replaced with smiles and laughter when you remember him and how special he was. Until then, our hearts are heavy for all of you. God must've thought him extra special to take him on x-mas eve. We love you all....
