Harold Martin "Hal" Sullivan

Harold Martin Sullivan, 88, of Windsor, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018. Born in Orono, ME, son of the late Harold and Mary (Mitchell) Sullivan, was raised in Maine and served in the US Navy. He graduated from the University of Maine and received master's degrees from both St. Anslem's College and St. Joseph's College. He taught English at the Loomis Chaffee School and Latin at South Windsor High School. He had a private practice in Drug and Alcohol Counselling in Avon before his retirement. He had co-authored "Early Years of English Literature" and had presented at the Bread Loaf Writers Conference at Middlebury, College. Hal possessed an amazing wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a devoted teacher and mentor as an educator at both Loomis Chaffee and South Windsor High School. He leaves his former wife Juliette (Tessier) Sullivan; two sons Michael N. Sullivan and Kim of Simsbury and Sean M. Sullivan and Emily of Boise, ID; a daughter Susan Canty and her husband Leo of Windsor. He was predeceased by sons Kevin M. Sullivan and Brian F. Sullivan and a daughter Lisa D.C. Sullivan. He also leaves eight grandchildren Shana, Megan, Rozzalynn, Ryan, Rachael, Danielle, Helen, and Grace; seven great grandchildren Zoe, Adam, Dexter, Nicholas, Jackson, Emerson, and Violette; two brothers John and Daniel Sullivan; two sisters Donna Joseph and Bunny Davis; and many caring friends who were there when he needed them these past few years. Besides his parents and children he was predeceased by sisters Mary Lou, JoAnn, and Dorsey. His family will receive friends Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 1-2 pm followed by a Sharing of Remembrances at 2 PM at THE LODGE 130 Deerfield Road, Windsor. A Reception will follow the service.
