HALE, Herbert Howe Herbert Howe Hale, 88, widower of Elizabeth (Kellar) died Thursday, (November 3, 2005) at Calaroga Terrace, Portland, Oregon. Herb was born in Pendleton, Oregon in 1917, the son of John and Ethel (Fish) Hale. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Italy during World War II, he completed his education, graduating from the University of Oregon. He worked for the Portland Public Schools for nearly 30 years as an elementary school principal in several schools and was the first principal of Humboldt School. He was a longtime active member of Rose City Park United Methodist Church. Herb leaves three sons and their wives: Jack Hale and Jane Driscoll of Hartford, Robert and Dina Hale of Portland, OR, and Douglas and Patti Hale of Hanson, MA. He leaves six grandchildren: Greg and Gordon Hale and Katherine Driscoll of Hartford; Elise and Jessica Hale of Portland; and Emmett Hale of Hanson; and a great grandson, Joseph Benacquisto of New Britain. He leaves his brother Robert and sister Marian, both of Portland and was predeceased by his brothers Edward and William and his sister Grace. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 3 p.m. in the chapel at Calaroga Terrace, 1400 NE 2nd Avenue, Portland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Hospice Association, Portland, Oregon or the Knox Parks Hartford, Hartford, CT.
