Hubert Butler Obituary

Hubert E. Butler, 87, of Moodus Rd., East Hampton, beloved husband of Pauline (Gagnon) Butler, passed away Sunday, (September 21, 2003) at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown. He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, June 20, 1916, son of the late Charles W. and Isabel (Cox) Butler and had resided in East Hampton for 63 years. Before his retirement, Hubert was the founder and owner of Hubert E. Butler Construction Co., Portland. He served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign. In May of 2000, his exploits became public when federal officials recognized him for his years of service and heroism. Hubert received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Presidential Unit Citation. Besides his wife, he is survived by two brothers, Charles W. Butler, Jr. of Windsor Locks, Marshall Butler of Enfield; a sister, Phyllis of California; a step-sister, Patricia Hecker of Boynton Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main St., East Hampton, Friday, 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, 2 p.m. at Spencer Funeral Home, with Pastor Donald French of Full Gospel Church, Hartford, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, East Hampton. Those wishing may send memorial contributions to East Hampton Ambulance Assoc., P.O. Box 144, East Hampton, 06424.
