We send our heartfelt sympathy at this time of loss. My family knew "Woody" from "away-back when".

When I last saw him at mother's house in '94 we were discussing old times and the train to be moved to the historical society. My husband enjoyed talking to him about their commom interests and experiences that one day. Woody was the epitome of A CLASS ACT! Not many of his kind around. Noni Hogwood

Dear Kay, Anne & Jane,

We feel so honored to have known such a warm and loving man as Mr. Wood. He gave unselfishly to our community and to HIS CHILDREN at Plainville High School. He provided life lessons for us to carry beyond graduation.

Kay, we want to thank you for all of our lawn discussions and kitchen table talks with you and Woody. For always being there to add to the fun when a menber of our class would come in from out of state to visit. For giving up your dance partner on Wednesday nights to share with us and for all of the other countless good times we have had with you. We will miss him.

Anne and Jane, we want to thank you also for sharing your father with the entire town. You girls were so lucky to have had such a beautiful upbringing with warm loving parents. And Jane, thank you and Court for inviting us to share some special moments.

To echo all that were honored to know you Woody, you will be missed but never forgotton.

Love,

Mary and Loretta

Let's tell some real stories. As a freshman totally full of myself I skipped school only to come home to my mother waiting at the door with a belt to make me be straight! Oy. Anyway, I had made the chearleading squad quite early and "The Hawk" called my mother and told her to tell me that I was not going to be a chearleader...an aside from the Hawk...she will be a chearleader just make her sweat it out...she is a good kid! To all of you, your Dad was special. He commanded respect and he always had an aura. He simply was a class act.

My Dad also sends his best and my Mom would have said the same.

Dear Jane, Ann,and Mrs. Wood,

Please accept Sue's and my condolences on the loss of your father and husband. Take comfort in the fact the he lived a long, healthy, happy and productive life. He was and always will be PLAINVILLE. He was sent there to make it a better place. He made so many of us better people. I've always felt lucky to have grown up in Plainville, and it seems that everything that's good in the town was touched by his influence or direction. I was one of his many students who knew that he was in charge of that building -- he was everywhere! Not only did we receive an education at Plainville High School, but because of "Mr. Wood" we learned about life and how to treat others with respect and caring. Only in our more mature years did we realize what a GIANT of a man he was. I feel honored to have known and been associated with him. It won't be the same without him. Count us among the thousands whose lives have been touched by him.

Sincerely,

John and Susan McDonnell

My memories of Mr. Wood go back to our graduating class of 1957 when he was principal of Plainville High School. Mr. Wood was always polite and a gentleman.

Kay, Anne, and Jane,

All of you are in our thoughts and prayers. Woody was a teacher, coach, principal, father figure, role model, fellow member of the BOE, and a friend. There are so many thing I will miss about him. His memory for past students, he and Kay dancing at Norton Park during the concerts, his fiddle playing, and his pony carts. I think our favorite memory is of him dancing to YMCA by the Village People at our wedding reception. You girls are not the only ones who lost a father, we all lost a father. Ivan Wood was a true gentleman. I rarely heard him raise his voice mainly because he was the voice of reason and civility. The mold was broken when God made him and we were so lucky that his family was kind enough to share a piece of him with us. Thank you Woody for touching our lives and instilling the confidence in us to succeed at anything we tried. God Bless
