Sorry if this is a bit lengthy but it's the memory of Robert Ford I have and how it made an impact in my life. A group of us had driven down to the high school after our senior night festivities to write 84 rules on a large piece of plywood covering up a broken window in the cafeteria. It was late in the evening and we had taken all the precautions as not to get caught. Unfortunately moments after arriving someone had called the police thinking the school was being broken into. 4 police cars showed up and we had a lot of explaining to do. The officers were actually pretty cool and they let us go. They would be calling Monday to tell the administration about the incident. So we decided to show up early and face the music. There were 6 or eight of us. We walked into the office and asked if we could see the the principal. She let us into his office where he was busy writing something, one of the guys told he we are hear to talk about the incident Friday night. He stop writing and looked up at us and asked what incident? We explained what had happened and that we had no intention of damage if the school just painting on the plywood. We were all sure we would at the very least be looking at some detention time worst case suspension and missing graduation. He sat back and said you guys are pretty honorable guys, paint the board black and we will call it even. We all were shocked. That was great! But the best part came later. I'm not sure if I got this in my diploma or if it was mailed to me after graduation, but I received a note and a comic strip. Funky winkerbean to be exact. It was a principal standing at a podium giving remarks at a graduation. This years graduates have left their mark on this school.....unfortunately it was with spray paint! I felt very blessed to know he had taken time to think of me and the rest of the guys, and to know who I was! Sorry for your loss! The world has lost one of the true heroes! Philip Cirelli

Being an assistant principal of a high school in the 60's must have been a really challenging job! Several Glastonbury alums and I were talking about Mr. Ford and we agreed, he was strict, but fair.
I remember Mr. and Mrs. Ford attending Mass...what a beautiful couple!
Peace, Mr.Ford

As Glastonbury High School teenagers, we recognized what a great guy our Vice Principal Mr. Ford was - - he kept us in line, helped us grow and protected us through our young years. He was our friend. So when it came time to graduate from GHS, it only made sense to dedicate our class of 1970 yearbook to Mr. Ford. Since graduation, we have remained close friends with Mr. Ford. Simply a great guy!! My sincere condolences to his family.
I hope the accompanying yearbook dedication photo conveys what he meant to this bunch of GHS teenagers!
