James Couchon Obituary

James Albert Couchon, 41, of No. Society Road, Canterbury, and formerly of Colchester, beloved husband of Maureen, passed away Monday, (October 13, 2003) from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Hampton. Born February 18, 1962 in Willimantic, he was a son of the late Leonard and Allene (Backus) Couchon. He attended Windham High School and then continued his studies at the former Mohegan Community College, earning an Associate's in Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Counseling. On November 20, 1993, he wed the former Maureen Cavanaugh at the Colchester Federated Church. Mr. Couchon was an Asset Manager for the Corporation for Independent Living in Wethersfield. He was a member of the Colchester Federated Church, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UCONN Huskies. James gave himself to others in need, through volunteering and mentoring. He will be remembered most fondly for the friendship, kindness and generosity he freely gave to his fellow man. In addition to his loving wife of almost 10 years, he is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Joslyn of Willimantic and Anne Couchon of Farmington; two brothers, Doug Couchon of Elmira, NY and Charles Couchon of Putnam; and numerous extended family members and friends. Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A Memorial Service will be 10 a.m. Friday directly at the Colchester Federated Church at 60 Main Street, with the Rev. Bonnie Haase, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of SECT, P.O. Box 902, Uncasville 06382-0902.

Maureen-

I was an intern at the Omega House with James in 1997-1998. His positive energy, respect, and unconditional love affected all the lives he touched. You are in my thoughts.

Maureen - I opened up your email this morning and am stunned. I always looked forward to attending classes with James. He brought realness where ever he went. There are many words to descibe such a great man, for now I will embrace the memories. It has been a gift to know James. Prayers and thoughts.

I only knew James through my parents, Tony and Kathy Clark, but I enjoyed his company very much. He was a good guy, and the world is less with his loss. He made a positive impact in the world...and I guess that's all that any of us can hope to do. I'm so sorry for your loss...my prayers will be with you.

I was a friend of Jim's some 20 years ago when I was in college and although he and I had little contact since those days I was touched enough by the time we spent together to contact some of the others who knew him from those years and make the trip to today's service. If there be any solace in your life Mo at this, the most difficult of times of your life, know that you had the beauty of knowing and loving a man who touched so many people in so many ways. There are so few unique human beings in this day and age and although some years had passed between us I count myself among those better for having known Jim.

Peace

Dear Maureen,

You and James have been so special to me in the short two years that I knew you. James was the kind of co-worker who shared himself with us, and since you were such a huge part of his life, he shared you with us. I am so thankful for that.

Please call me every now and then.
