COONEY, Jandira Viana (Correia) Jandira Viana (Correia) Cooney, 79, of Hartford, passed away Monday (August 1, 2005). She was the daughter of the late Jose Mota Correia and Edith Viana Morrissete. She was born in Ceara, Brasil and met her future husband there during World War II, came to the U.S. with her mother, five sisters, and eventually married and raised her family in the Hartford area. She was a beautiful, dedicated, and attentive mother, always putting the needs of her children first. We will all miss her unconditional support and love through the good times and bad as well as her kind, unselfish manner. She always chose the right words to get to the heart of the matter and motivate her family to do the best they could. She had 12 children, Veronica Cooney, George Cooney Jr., Jose Cooney, Jandira Cooney Jr., Anna Cooney, Isabell Roddy, the late Juana (Cooney) Ledoux, Frank Cooney, John Cooney, James Cooney, Jerry Cooney, and Napoleon Cooney. She is also survived by five sisters and a brother, Iolette Tomaiuolo, Ednusa Kelley, Josedith O'Connell-Landano, Elizabeth Markley, Fernandina Sinacore, and Eugene Morrissete, Jr.; 26 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her greatly. She was predeceased by her husband George V. Cooney Sr., and four brothers. Jandira will be especially remembered for her life of constant sacrifice and concern for others. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 5, at 10:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Ave., Hartford, followed by burial in State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to NAMI of CT (National Alliance of Mental Illness), 30 Jordan Lane, Wethersfield, CT 06109. Funeral arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc.
