Jane Borden Obituary
Borden, Jane (Merkle) Jane Borden of West Hartford, Connecticut passed away peacefully December 15, 2017. Born August 24,1943 in Haworth, NJ to Edward and Dorothy Merkle, she graduated from Dwight-Englewood School, in NJ, Sweet Briar College in VA and received a masters degree from University of Denver. Jane married Lewis Mercer Borden, III June 5, 1965 and they built a life filled with friends and laughter until Lew's passing in 2001. Jane is survived by her two sons: Lewis Mercer Borden, IV (Jennifer) and Edward Arroll Borden (Tanya) and her grandchildren Maya, Mason, Mercer and Thatcher. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Ned Merkle. A memorial will be held January 27, 2018 at 2pm at St. James Episcopal Church 1018 Farmington Ave West Hartford, CT 06107. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lowry Foundation lowryfoundation.org or mailed to The Lowry Foundation 293 Roslyn St. Denver, CO 80230. A celebration of her life will be held at the Lowry Reading Garden in Denver this summer.

I was very sad to hear about the sudden death of a gym friend. Jane had such a spark for life. We loved sharing stories of our families. She always talked about the love of her life, her Lew. She just adored her boys and grandchildren. I was so amazed at her independent spirit and her trip to Africa. We shared notes and many hours at the gym- I just regret that I never got to see her pics of Africa.. I know she is with her Lewis and is surrounded by angels-she was just a lovely woman and many at the gym were so shocked to hear of her passing.

One of the many wonderful people from St. James's I had the pleasure of knowing was Jane Borden. She had such a zest for life and loved to talk about her travels to visit her children and grandchildren. I extend my deepest condolences to her family.

Jane and I attended St. James's Episcopal church and it was always a pleasure to worship with her. We also enjoyed talking about Colorado politics and her love for and admiration of her grandchildren. I will miss Jane but am so very grateful to have known her.
