Jane Ellsworth

1921 - 2015

Jane (Hart) Ellsworth, 94, of Vernon, loving wife of the late Harold Downing Ellsworth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Fox Hill Center in Vernon. Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late William and Grace (Godard) Hart, she grew up and lived in West Hartford, East Windsor and Ellington before moving to Vernon eight years ago. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy in West Hartford, and she attended Brenau College in Gainesville, GA. Jane worked at the Oxford School (now Kingswood Oxford) for ten years before her marriage to Harold. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of East Windsor and she sang in the choir. Jane was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her beloved children, H. Downing Ellsworth and his wife Sharon of Ellington, Jeffrey Ellsworth and his wife Kathryn of Brewster, NY, and Susan Ellsworth and her husband Kevin Flanigan of East Hartford; five grandchildren, Justin, Lindsay and Brandon Ellsworth and Heather and Patrick Flanigan; two great grandsons, Andrew Downing Ellsworth and Michael Downing Ellsworth; a brother, William S. Hart of Granby, his son Will Hart, Jr. of North Granby and daughter Sarah Koeniger of Simsbury, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Scantic Cemetery, Cemetery Road, East Windsor followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of East Windsor, 124 Scantic Road, East Windsor. Jane's family would like to thank all of the staff at Fox Hill Center for the wonderful care they gave to her over the past three years.
