Janet Robinson Obituary

Janet Helen (Huber) Robinson, 81, New Haven, CT passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Yale New Haven Hospital, after a series of health complications. Janet was born on January 19, 1941 to Mary (Moore) Huber and Carl Huber in New Haven, CT. After graduating from Hillhouse High School in 1958, she went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts from Southern Connecticut State College. After graduation, she taught 4th Grade at Mt. Carmel School in Hamden, CT and was a substitute teacher in public and private schools in southern New Hampshire and New Haven, CT. She earned her license to practice real estate in 1984 and she enjoyed that work for nearly 30 years with William Raveis Real Estate, Cuozzo Associates/Press-Cuozzo, Roe Curtis and Norman Properties. Janet was married to David F. Robinson (b. 1936- d. 2005) from 1966 to 1985, who worked for Roadway Express for 32 Years. When Roadway Express honored David with a Salesforce award, they made an award for Janet, that said "You did good, too!" A life-long learner, Janet was fascinated by archeology, early civilizations and early New England history. An avid treasure hunter, Janet was sure to find a needle in a haystack at open markets across the state. At antique shows, she was known to impart knowledge to friends and vendors about jewelry, patterns of china, cut glass, pressed glass, and quilting. Janet had a creative energy, and a keen eye. She loved to sew and wore her own creations from as early as 9 and throughout her adult life. Her scarves and pocketbooks were coveted gifts, and her valentines cards and collages continue to be framed and displayed by family and friends. Her valentines were featured in an article in the New Haven Register. Janet was active in supporting the Sister Cities movement in the 1980s, and hosted students from Avignon, France and Tamar Sachar, the Deputy Mayor of Ramat Gan, Israel, Chairperson of The Committee for Foreign Relations in her home. Janet was also very proud of her Elm City roots, and enjoyed availing herself to all of the cultural assets of the city, particularly Yale Art Gallery, Yale Center for British Art, Concerts at Woolsey Hall and was a volunteer Docent at the Peabody Museum. She was enriched by travel, and was grateful to have visited Europe multiple times. Provincetown, MA was one of her favorite places. She instilled that enjoyment in her daughters, advising them to take every chance to travel – which they do! Janet was predeceased by Carl Huber (father) Mary (May) Huber (mother), Jack Huber (Brother) and Jeanne Treanor (Sister). She is survived by her daughters Kerry K. Robinson (New York, NY), Catherine (Kate) C. Robinson, her husband Robert P. Vietzke, and her grandsons Alexander R. Vietzke and Theodore R. Vietzke, all of West Hartford, CT. We would like to recognize the excellent and compassionate care given by the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Heart and Vascular Unit at Yale New Haven Hospital, and VITAS Inpatient Hospice Care. A visitation will be held at the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St., New Haven CT on Friday May 20th, 2022 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church 5 Hillhouse Ave., New Haven, CT. Interment will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the New Haven Public Library Foundation at NHFPL Foundation, 133 Elm Street, New Haven, CT 06510

My memories of Janet started in college in 1958 and continue even now. I think of her often.
If we talked but twice a year, our conversation was as if we had just seen each other the day before.
One memory was of her fashionable tailored look.
She often wore classic cotton Oxford shirts and told me that one of her weekly spending extravagances was to send them out to be laundered and starched! She always looked polished and confident. I miss her.
Fondly,
Evelyn Volpe

Dear Family,
Most of my memories of Janet are from college days.

Ms. Robinson was the first and only person to welcome me in my new home across the street from her. A welcome bottle of wine was left at my door. She was a wealth of knowledge to me as a first home owner. I never had to listen to the weather about snow cast because Ms that Ms Robinson would always move her car close and facing Yale avenue from her drive way. That was a forecast of coming snow. She was always correct. She will be missed

Janet was fun and interesting as we shared good times in our late teens, early twenties and again as young parents. Janet always had a smile on her face and would turn her many antics into tons of laughter. She always had background information on almost every topic which she shared with enthusiastically. R.I.P, Janet. Kerry and Kate, treasure her memory.

Janet and I became friends in 1958 when a pretty, collegiate looking girl with a beautiful ponytail, visited my dorm at New Haven State Teacher's College. We met and discovered we had much in common especially when discussing our good times dating Yalies for Ivy League Football Weekends. Lots of parties, boyfriends, studying, and wondering about our future.
After graduating from Southern Connecticut State College in 1962, our lives went in different directions, but we kept in touch with long phone calls and the occasional lunch date when we would talk for hours discovering new things in common: Real Estate, lucky Rummage Sale finds, our kids growing up, our health, and our future.
We met for the last time at our 50th year college reunion. Christmas cards then became our final way of staying connected. I loved Janet and I'll miss her. I wish I could have one more phone call to catch up.
My deepest sympathies to Kerry, Kate, their families and friends for this sad loss. I plan to be at the memorial mass for her on May 21.
Love, Evelyn Volpe
