John Paul Robinson, 87, died March 27, 2026 at Oaknoll Retirement Residence.

Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 PM, Tuesday afternoon, March 31, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. A reception will follow the service.

????John was born January 1,1939 in Rhode Island to Paul W. Robinson and Marianne (McCaskey) Robinson. He received his B.S. Degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and M.S. And Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University. He joined the University of Iowa faculty in 1965. Along with teaching he also served as Associate Dean of Engineering 1992-1997. John was recognized for his work in communication and information theory, computer reliability, and combinatorial searches.

????John married Eileen Manderscheid on August 6, 1960 and they enjoyed over sixty-five years together. He was a runner and won many trophies at area road races. He was a loving brother, husband, father and grandfather.

????John is survived by his wife, Eileen Robinson, three sons: Paul (Kim), Mark (Shannon) and Karl (Jennifer); nine grandchildren: Janice, Vincent, Michael, Xavier, Darcy, Jesse, Maxwell, Eliana, and Sophia; two great grandchildren: Amari and Kalix; his brother Ed, and sisters Catherine and Nancy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Frances, sisters Patricia, Joan, Barbara and Elizabeth.

????Honoring his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program. Please direct memorial contributions to Iowa City Hospice or CommUnity Crisis Services.
