Janet Wong Obituary

Janet J. Wong, age 50, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017, while in hospice care at Hebrew HealthCare in West Hartford. She was born December 23, 1966, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to Cheuk-Yin and Jeanne (Yang) Wong. She was a 1989 graduate of Princeton University, and worked as a journalist before receiving degrees in Anthropology and Medicine. She married Ron Small on July 9, 1995, in Chicago. After medical school and dermatology residency, Janet went to work for New England Dermatology Associates in Vernon, and in a few years became a partner. Janet was a truly compassionate person who cared for her patients deeply. She dearly loved her two children, Benjamin and Naomi. She was also an accomplished writer and poet. Besides her husband Ron and their children and her parents, Janet leaves a brother Albert, a sister Lisa, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other beloved relatives. Family, friends, and others whose lives Janet touched are invited to a celebration of her life which will take place on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT. At 6:00 pm there will be a reading of Janet's poems. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gastric Cancer Foundation, www.gastriccancer.org. Dear Ron,Benjamin,Naomi,Parents,Brother, Sister and all family members,

I was shocked to see today in the December 2917 issue of Dermatology World the sad news of Dr. Janet Wong's passing. Eternal Memory!

I knew Dr. Janet when she was a dermatology resident in Chicago. I was one of her dermatology teachers. I also learned from her, as Dr. Janet Wong was very kind, gentle, patient and wise. Dr. Janet is deeply missed far and wide.
My deepest condolences and prayers to all.

Sincerely,
Sophie

To all of Janet's family.

I had not heard of Janet's passing until now and felt so completely shocked at the news. I was one of Janet's teachers and attending physicians at her Dermatology residency at University of Illinois and worked closely with her during the residency. She was such a wonderful physician and such a great human being. It is such a tragic loss to her family, her friends, her patients and the whole community. Just like parents should never have to bury their children, teachers should never have to write notes of condolences to their students family. It is life totally out of sync.
To the whole family, I give you my heartfelt condolences and wish you peace.

I was a patient of Dr. Wong and just recently received a letter from her office that notified me of her passing. Dr. Wong took very good care of me and I want to pass along my sincere sympathy and condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed..

I was stunned to learn of Dr. Wong's passing. Earlier this year in just a few short minutes she diagnosed and addressed through prescription medications a very painful infection I had in one of my toes that left me with serious ambulatory difficulties on the eve of my Little League girls softball season. I am 74 years old and still coaching and Dr. Wong enabled me to quickly recover and coach another year. I am so sorry that she is no longer here for her family and her patients. Life is wonderful, but often unfair. I mourn her loss. So sad.

My condolences to Ron, Ben, Naomi and Dr. Wong's whole family. Dr. Wong was a wonderful, caring doctor. It was a pleasure to work for her for over 15 years.
I will always remember Dr. Wong saying she did not have to look at a calendar to know it was a holiday. She just had to see what
holiday outfit I had on. She will be missed by all her staff and especially her patients. God Bless.
