Jeanne "Joan" Cormier

Jeanne Steben Cormier "Joan", 87, beloved wife of predeceased husband Joseph Arthur Cormier of 67 years, died at the Reservoir on Sunday, December 19, 2021 surrounded by her loving sons. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Edward M. Steben and Georgiana (Gauvin) Steben. Joan lived 62 years in West Hartford. She was an active parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford where she served as President of the Woman's Club as well as a 6th grade CCD teacher and coordinator for 25 years. Joan graduated High School from the Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford in 1951. Joan alongside with her husband operated Cormier's Esso/Exxon in West Hartford for 52 years. She and her husband loved square dancing and they were active members of the Shooting Stars and other clubs for 18 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by 3 sisters: Lucille Bond, Therese Armstrong and Claire McAuliffe as well as 4 brothers: Raymond, Normand, Edward and Roland Steben. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law; Kenneth and Lucinda Cormier of West Hartford, John and Nancy Cormier of Swansea, MA, Martin and Dawn Cormier of Rockaway Township, NJ; her sister- in- law Corinne Cormier Hermann of Rocky Hill; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joan approached living with great passion and inner fire. She made a difference in all the lives she touched and remembered for her strong spirit, sense of humor, love of family and kindness. The family would like to thank the Nurses and Aides at the Reservoir for the excellent care they provided. The funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford, and the burial was private.
