Jeffrey Taylor Obituary

Jeffrey Pease Taylor, age 69 years, died peacefully on August 21, 2020 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital (Dover, NH) of complications from metastatic melanoma. Jeff was the beloved husband of Catherine (Twomey) Taylor of Rochester, NH and Chatham, MA. Jeff was born at Hartford Hospital (CT) to Saunda (Pease) Taylor and Harlan Taylor. He was raised in Manchester, CT, but spent many a happy vacation at his grandparents' farm, Moraka Stock Farm, in Rochester, NH. Jeff attended Northeastern University, graduating in 1974 and majoring in civil engineering. After college, Jeff returned to his beloved family farm and trained and raced Standardbred horses around many of the New England harness racing tracks. In the mid 1970's, Jeff started his own construction company, Moraka Construction. Jeff and Cathy were married in 1977 and purchased the family farm in Rochester, where Cathy taught school and Jeff ran his construction business. Jeff served as General Manager of The Rochester Fair for several years and also served as President of the Board of The Homemakers of Strafford County. He transitioned to the role of Chief Operating Officer of Eastern Propane Gas & Oil, Inc. in Rochester, NH. He served on both regional and national propane gas boards and retired from the industry in 2015. Jeff and Cathy are the proud parents of Emily Chase Taylor (Hanover, NH) and Willis Pease Taylor, who predeceased Jeff in 2016. Jeff was always involved in his children's activities – most notably, Berwick Academy (Trustee) and Chatham (MA) Yacht Club. He was a devoted and proud father and husband, always supporting Cathy's volunteer activities as well, in every way. He never hesitated to get out his tools and help someone or organization in need. In 2006, Jeff built a home for his parents, Hal and Saunda Taylor, on the family property in Rochester; and in 2019, he renovated a Hanover, NH home for his daughter, Emily, and her family. Jeff loved to build and repair things himself. He rebuilt a 1946 Willys CJ2A and also a 1974 BMW 2002Tii. He made many good friends through his hobbies. Jeff and Cathy purchased a vacation home in Chatham, MA in 1994 and it was there that they spent many weekends and summers with their family on the beautiful waters of Pleasant Bay. Their "Cape House" was a source of pride and joy. Jeff leaves behind his wife of nearly 44 years, Cathy Taylor; as well as a sister, Judy Taylor (Manchester, CT); and his daughter, Emily Taylor (Hanover, NH), her husband, Justin Assad, and their two girls, Henley and Meris Assad. Jeff loved the role of "Baba". Additionally, Jeff leaves behind his niece, Jennifer Dennison, and her family of Westport, CT; as well as a sister-in-law, Marilyn T. Smith of Fairfax, VA. Jeff's family would like to thank the talented and dedicated medical staff at Wentworth Douglass Hospital for their exceptional care and kindnesses over the course of Jeff's short illness and hospice care. Jeff was the consummate gentleman. He was thoughtful, sweet, kind, patient, and a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, husband and friend. He will be sorely missed by his heartbroken family and friends. Memorial services will be private. Arrangements are under to care of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. To sign the online guestbook, please visit www.edgerlyfh.com

It was a shock to learn of Jeff's passing. We are so sorry. Jeff remodeled our retirement home and I sit here now remembering his remarkable capabilities at meeting the challenges of building on a steep slope. We go way back to living closer by in Rochester. Such fond memories. He will be missed by many. Cathy, you and your family can be very proud of Jeff. Our love and condolences to you and your family.

Dear Cathy,
I am deeply saddened to learn of Jeff's passing. He was a true light in my professional life. When propane meetings convened, it was Jeff who made a difference in my opinion. He said the bold things needed to be said, he supported the Women in Propane Council, he used his wit to great advantage, and he generously shared his time and wisdom. Today I shed a tear as I read this devastating news. Yet, my strongest memories are of laughing with him during the multiple events where I would be lucky enough to see him. From the first time we met he seemed like an old friend.

I'm so sorry for your heartbreaking loss. He will be missed.

My heart and love goes out to you and your family.

My words cannot fully express the sorrow I feel after learning about the death of Jeffrey. May you and your children forever treasure the wonderful times you had all shared with Jeff. He was such a kind man who did so much for so many. Kathy, I remember the days he worked beside you at Berwick Academy helping in many ways and cheering on the Berwick teams your children were involved in. My thoughts are with your whole family.

We are absolutely heartbroken! Jeff could fix anything and was always thinking about more cool projects to do. He was our favorite co-conspirator in car restoration, boating activities and house renovation projects. He loved being Baba, and just finished a fantastic swingset overlooking Bassing Harbor and adorable beds frames made out of wooden spars for his granddaughters. His gentle and humorous spirit and his love for family and community added a sweet patina to all his workmanship. He will forever be missed, but will also be forever present in his many gifts to the world.

Cathy and Emily, I am so sorry to hear about Jeff. He was a wonderful guy. The first memory that came to mind was him coming to the farm and finding me hiding in the barn from my grandmother. He told her where I was and there was heck to pay after he left! Even at about 10 years old I wasn’t mad at him, I knew he did the right thing! He and my dad stayed close through the years and I know it meant the world to my dad. He will be missed.

Such sad news. We remember Mr. Taylor well from his time on the Board at the Rochester Fair, and also during his dedicated time supporting the many volunteers with the rescue and reinvention of the Rochester Opera House. May the very best of memories bring you all comfort and strength. Our deepest condolences to Mr. Taylor's family.

I am sorry for your family's loss. I remember Jeff when he used to come into Rochester House of Pizza and I would take his order, he always slipped me a tip in my hand instead of the tip jar because he worked with my mom. He was a great guy, always a smile on his face. My condolences.
