Jemmie J. Green

1941 - 2022

Jemmie J. Green, 81, entered eternal rest on Friday, August 12, 2022, at his home in San Pedro, CA. Jemmie was born on January 28, 1941, in Everette City, GA and was the son of the late Jimmy Green Sr. and Essie Mae (McCutchen) Green. Jemmie was raised in Brunswick, GA and graduated from Risley High School in 1958. After graduating from high school, Jemmie was eager to leave Brunswick and relocated to Hartford, CT to work the tobacco farms in Windsor & Hazardville, CT. Soon thereafter, Jemmie's brothers Albert C., Charles and Larry joined him in Connecticut and, much later, followed by their baby sister Jackie. While in CT, Jemmie worked at Terry Steam Turbine in Hartford until going on strike with the laborers demanding fair wages. Thereafter, Jemmie moved to Savannah, GA and worked for Morrison Cafeteria until he returned to Hartford to work as an elevator operator at G. Fox & Company. While exploring career options Jemmie became a community organizer with the Urban League in Hartford and later worked at Aetna before working as a Precision Machinist for Chandlier Evans, a subcontracting plant for military aircraft. Later, Jemmie joined Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford as an Aerospace Engineer. In the late 70s, Jemmie hit the lottery and ventured west to California. Jemmie is survived by his daughters, DeWarner Kim Anderson of St. Petersburg, FL, Tracy Lloyd of Brooklyn, NY, Mylyn (Alexander) Smith of Windsor, CT, and Monique Sharp of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters Mae Francis White and her husband Clifford of San Jose, CA and Jackie Smalls of Bloomfield, CT as well as a host of nieces, nephews and many loving relatives and friends. Jemmie was predeceased by his parents, Jimmy Green Sr. and Essie Mae (McCutchen) Green; a daughter, Andrea Chemein Gardner; six brothers, Ricky Green of Brunswick, GA, James Edward Green of Paterson, NJ, Albert C. Green of Bloomfield, CT, Harry Green of Fontana, CA, Larry Green of East Hartford, CT, and Charles Green of Brunswick, GA; three sisters, an unnamed baby sister in Brunswick, GA, Eloise Walker of Brunswick, GA and Essie Lee Truvillion of San Francisco, CA. A virtual memorial service will be held on September 17, 2022 beginning at 2pm (EST)/11am (PT).
