JERABEK, Jerry C.
Jerry Charles Jerabek, 84, of Farmington, passed away on January 4, 2013 at UConn Medical Center in Farmington. He was born July 6, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Charles and Anna Jerabek. Jerry grew up in Cicero, IL. After graduating high school in 1946, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He later earned his Masters degree and was employed at both Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford and later at Kaman Engineering (formerly Raymond Engineering) of Middletown. He was a veteran who served in the Navy during the Korean War. Jerry and his family moved from Illinois to Connecticut in 1961 and was a longtime resident of Simsbury before moving to Farmington 17 years ago. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Audrey Jerabek; son Neal Jerabek and grandchildren Jessica and Jeffrey of Atlanta, GA; son Drew Jerabek of West Hartford; son Jay Jerabek and his wife Nancy and grandchildren Sabrina and Anastasia of Merrit Island, FL; daughter Dawn Jerabek and granddaughter Kelsey of Canton. Jerry is remembered by his family as a gregarious man of immense kindness, compassion, and gentle temperament. A man who placed his family above all else, he also enjoyed sports, reading, home life both in Farmington and his winter residence in Sarasota, FL. He had a great passion for food and loved to cook on his grill.
The family will hold a private memorial service after cremation. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Old Dog House, a rescue project for aged dogs that provides a safe haven and loving home to needy canines in the last years of their lives.
