Joanie Guglielmo Obituary

March 19, 1950 – July 2, 2023

Joanie Storey Guglielmo, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family, on July 2, 2023, at her home of 33 years, in Basalt, Colorado. Joanie was born in Hartford, CT, on March 19, 1950, to the late Pasquale and Mary Guglielmo. Joanie was the second oldest of 6 children and attended William H. Hall High School in West Hartford and Chamberlain Jr College in Boston.

Joanie and her sister Patty moved to Aspen in 1972 to ski and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle. She started her Aspen journey at the Blue Spruce Lodge, then worked at the Weinerstub Restaurant as a hostess for Helmet and Gerhardt. She was married to Alan Storey from 1977 to 1983.

On any given day, Joanie could be found riding her road bicycle or cross-country skiing in the Aspen valley. True to what brought her to the area, she loved skiing. Snowmass was her mountain, and she had her boys skiing Gowdys before they graduated Kindergarten. Joanie enjoyed hiking up the resort slopes too, and was hiking up Snowmass way before uphilling was cool. She welcomed any and all into her home to enjoy the valley. Joanie enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews often taking them on many adventures in Colorado and Connecticut.

Growing up she had fond memories of West Hartford spent with her cousins and friends, even attending Woodstock for the full four days. Other adventures included fun times with aunts, uncles and cousins in Weymouth and the greater Boston area with visits to Nantasket Beach and Cedar Lake in Sturbridge.

Joanie is survived by her children Andy (Paula) Storey, Cody (Emily) Storey, and grandson Bjorn Storey. She was predeceased by her sister Patty Chambers and is survived by her brothers, Peter (Linda) Guglielmo, Paul (Amy) Guglielmo, Phil Guglielmo, and Patrick (Sally) Guglielmo.

A mass of intentions will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 110 Main Street, in Farmington, CT on Sunday, December 17th, at 10:30am. All are welcome. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the service at Farmington Gardens 999 Farmington Ave.

Donations can be made to the Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Institute.

To the entire Guglielmo family, I am so sorry for your loss. Joanie was a kind and caring person. I was telling someone today that I believe I was there at your family home the day she and Patty left for Colorado. Never would I have thought she and I would meet again and become friends. Joanie was there at the right time and place to help me move on with my life after I lost my husband... and for that I am most grateful. She will be truly missed by so many...Again, please accept my deepest sympathy. With much love, Lynne Daniels

To the entire Guglielmo family, I am so sorry for your loss...Joanie was such a kind and caring person. I was telling someone today that I believe I was there at your family home the day she and Patty left for Colorado. At the time I would never have thought that our paths would cross again, decades later. When she and I would meet again and become friends. She was there at the right time and place to help me move on with my life after I lost my husband. For that I am most grateful...She lived life fully and with much love. She will be truly missed by so many...Again, please accept my deepest sympathy. With much love, Lynne Daniels
