I am so very sorry that I´m just learning of Uncle John´s passing. I recall so vividly how my sweet brother, Andrew, felt comforted visiting with your dad at my father´s funeral because he reminded Andrew so much of our dad and the years spent at the DeMaio cousin´s home. We loved his accent, their many stories about growing up and he clearly shared the same charm and love for his kids that my dad had.
We will be thinking about all of you and especially your beautiful mom, Aunt Sarah. Blessings to you all! Their family is together again, and I´m sure he and my dad are sharing stories and are at peace.
Your cousin, Jamie (DeMaio) Van Bergen, husband Peter and children Elizabeth and Luke

Rest in Peace Dr. DeMaio, it was an honor to have worked at St. Francis Hospital in nursing while you were there. I do not believe that there was a staff member there who didn't love you. You are an amazing doctor and human and will be remembered forever. Kathleen Falcon

We met the DeMaio family when we were neighbors on Hunter Drive many years ago. John & Mark mowed the lawn; Marie was our Kevin´s favorite babysitter ( `Muh wee´ ); I think we met John & Sarah @ our Halloween party !
We have subsequently become great admirers of John & Sarah; are terribly sad @ his passing, & happy that we´d known him for these many healthy years. We will miss John a great deal.

How sad and sorry it makes me to read of Dr Demaio's death. Not new I wanted to hear.
I was a little girl having heart surgery at St. Francis Hospital in 1963. My surgeon was training Dr. Demaio. He was a wonderful, kind doctor and responsible for a lot of my care. When I was in ICU it was he assigned to come in at 7 in the morning and check on me daily. He used to tease me about his stethoscope being cold because I was his first patient in the morning. His kind, calm sweet attitude was just was a little child in that situation needed. So sorry to hear of his passing and so glad he had 90 years. My sincere condolences to his family. You should be proud.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the DeMaio Family. I am sorry that I am out of town this week and will not be able to attend services, but I will be there in spirit.
Having worked in funeral service for 40 years in West Hartford, I have from time to time, been asked to read the following during services. I hope these words bring some comfort.
"Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile think of me, pray for me. Let my name forever be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same that it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well."

My sincere condolences to Dr DeMaio´s family. I just would like to share with you my experiences, My Mom met him working at St Francis, he talked about his children and my mom talked about her kids (I had 7 siblings), she had my sister and I get our ears pierced with only him. We were 14&15. He then did 3 surgeries on me. Treated me has if I was his daughter. I respected him and trusted him. He will be missed . I will forever remember him as a kind soul

Kathie and I send our deepest condolences to Sarah and all the DeMaio family. We enjoyed our many years with Sarah and Doc at Kensington. I enjoyed especially our shared times on the course and at the 19th hole, funny stories and a few laughs with a stogie and a libation or two! Sarah we pray for you to have strength during this difficult time, Doc you will be sorely missed and thank you for sharing your friendship with me over the years. May you rest in peace. God bless.

Deepest condolences to Dr. DeMaio's family and friends. We first met, many years ago, when I was a CST at St. Francis. Despite his stature, he was an imposing figure to my 19 year old, fresh out of tech school self, but his wit became a fast connecting point in our working relationship. His ability to toggle from humor to seriousness, as situations warranted, was a trait I admired and emulated, and later recognized as being rooted in kindness and respect, which he fostered in his residents and students. A great teacher, surgeon, and human being, whose healing ways went beyond the tangible, he will be missed dearly.

My condolences to Dr DeMaio´s family. I knew him through St Francis. Always a kind man and a very well respected surgeon. He operated on my mother and on many of my patients; everyone loved him. He taught me a lot too during my residency. A great man.
