John Kevan Obituary

John J. Kevan passed away peacefully unto the Lord on November 18, 2016. Born in Hartford on December 19, 1934, Jack was the much loved son of Mary McNamara and John Kevan, who, to better themselves and make education possible for their family, emigrated from Ireland to the United States. For this sacrifice, and the countless others made for him and his late sisters, Patricia, and Peg Barnard, Jack was ever grateful. Jack was predeceased by his dearly loved wife Maureen and his nephew, Ryan O'Neill. He is survived by his beloved niece, Mary Beth (Eugene) O'Neill, and their three children, Thomas, Michael, and Mairead, all of whom were very dear to him. His nephew Peter Barnard held a special place in Jack's heart, as he was always willing to step up when needed for a helping hand. Jack also leaves his sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy O'Neill, John (Katherine) O'Neill, and Elena and Bill. With no children of his own, Jack was privileged to be called "Uncle" by the children dear friends Richard Grew and Ellen Grew: Ryan, David, Conor and Molloy, all of whom grew up enjoying visits both spontaneous and planned. Jack never lost admiration for the nuns and priests who educated him from grammar school at Our Lady of Sorrows in Hartford, to St. Thomas and St. Bernard's Seminaries. His love of the written, and of course, spoken word, never ceased. Jack spent 26 years in ministry to the Archdiocese of Hartford, and it was his great hope that the Church recognize the works of those clergy who felt the need to leave. He wishes to thank those who served at the Dialysis Center of The Hospital of Central Connecticut. He knew he was a "high maintenance" customer, and his gratitude for the patience of his care team was immense. Calling hours will be Monday (Nov. 21st) from 5-7 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Funeral service will be Tuesday (Nov. 22nd) beginning with visitation at 9:00 a.m. in St. Patrick St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the House of Bread, 27 Chestnut St., Hartford, CT 06120. My deepest condolences to Jack's family and friends. We (myself, Jon, Zachary, and Lucas) met Jack about 2 years ago at Saint Patrick Saint Anthony's. He sat in the pew behind us and the boys (Zachary and Lucas)took a shine to him immediately with that warm and gentle smile of his. The boys are now 5. Jack loved to talk business and politics with Jon and the joy of being blessed with our boys with me. He spoke of his family often and how dear they were to him. We will miss seeing Jack every Sunday. He is so very dear to our hearts and his memory will live with us for all times.

Peace and love to you all as you grieve Jack's loss.
