John LeConche Obituary

John Xavier LeConche, 93, having lived life to the fullest, died October 9, 2014 surrounded by family. John "X" was a proud U.S. Marine, having served his country in World War II before becoming a member of the Laborers' International Union of North America and worked at the calling out of Laborers' Local Union 230 in Hartford until the age of 82. Since the 1950's every visitor and resident of Connecticut who either called Greater Hartford home, a place of work, or just a place from which to gaze upon the City of Hartford's skyline, owes much to John. As a Laborer and General Foreman, John X. LeConche worked on the construction and renovation of many of the Hartford area hospitals, high-rises, office buildings and educational institutions. John's legacy continues to this day, as many of those who worked for him have become jobsite Foremen and contractors. John also was part owner of the Dynamite Place Café in Newington. John X. LeConche was truly one of a kind, larger then life, and an original personality that spanned over nine decades, remaining a significant force in each. John was born in Hartford on September 10, 1921, son of the late Charles and Anna (Ruby) LeConche and lived there before moving to West Hartford. John leaves three sons and a daughter; Ronald Welch and his wife Sandy of West Hartford, Donna (LeConche) Lake and her husband Tony of Simsbury, John J LeConche of South Windsor and Michael LeConche of Westbrook; six grandchildren, Melissa Braidich, Mia Soucy, John W. LeConche, Mike Lake, Justin LeConche and Maggie Lake; and six great grandchildren, Taylor, Lilly, Gracie, Stella, Hudson and Hendricks. John enjoyed close relationships with his nephews, Charles LeConche of Farmington and Richard J. LeConche of Stafford Springs; cherished his special relationship with Leonard ``Butch' and Denise Granell of Vernon; and leaves his dear friend, Doria Di Nino. John also leaves a sister-in-law, Carmela "Millie" LeConche of Rocky Hill. He was the brother of the late Michael and James LeConche and Dorothy Petero and the former husband of Helena Welch and Grace LeConche. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Paradigm, as well as Jo and Amy of Masonicare. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday (October 16) at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford. Burial will be private and there are no calling hours. Donations in John's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
