John Mancinelli Obituary

John Antigiovanni "Johnny" Mancinelli died peacefully at home in West Hartford on Saturday (June 1, 2002), with his wife and daughter at his side. John was born in Hartford on June 10, 1924, the son of the late Sarah (Debenedetto) and Nicola Mancinelli. He was also predeceased by his sister, Gloria Cardillo. John grew up in the South End of Hartford, joined the Marines during World War II and came home to run Johnny's Friendly Parking on Market St. in Hartford for 40 years. He especially adored his grandchildren. He had a heart as big as all outdoors and that was what finally gave out. He is survived by his wife, Pat (Johnson) Mancinelli; his daughter, Sara Jean Wittke, her husband Rudi, and granddaughters, Jennifer and Kacie of East Windsor; his stepson, Bob DeSanto and his wife Antoinette "Toni" of Rocky Hill, and his grandaughters, Rosann Bertuli of East Haddam, Ann Marie Vitale of Moosup and Teresa Donahue of Marlborough; and his stepdaughter, Suzanne Mauro, and grandaughter, Mackenzie of East Windsor, NJ; and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Christina Geraci of Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. You can bet he left many good friends, especially John Capetta, Red Healy, Tom Laing and Johnny Angell. Visiting hours at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St., Manchester will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

I am truly going to miss John. I enjoyed speaking with him in the mornings. He was so kind and offered rides from his lot up to the Travelers building. He knew we had a shuttle but he never wanted us to be late for work if the shuttle was behind schedule. He always spoke fondly of his wife and family. I will miss his stories, which always triggered laughter. He leaves behind many fond memories and he will always have a special place on our hearts.

I am really going to miss John. John would always offer us rides to Travelers from the parking lot if our van was running late. What a great way to start the day with his kindness and humorous stories.... he always made me laugh! He shared many stories about his loving wife, family members and trips to the doctor. John is a real sweetheart and will always be in our hearts.

I absolutely "adored" John; so many times he provided a ride to Advest in bad and good weather. His many stories always had me laughing and definitely started my day off on the right track. John was a very caring, considerate and loving man and I have those memories of him in my heart and thoughts always. I will always treasure his kindness and loving, sweet smile. Know I will miss him dearly. TERRY

John will always have a special place in my heart and in my mind. He was at times a great inspiration and at other times one compasionate individual. He was one outgoing person; able to strike up a conversation with anyone at any time. He will be missed and fondly remembered.
