John Mastrobattista Obituary



John B. Mastrobattista, 86, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. He is the devoted husband of surviving wife, Mary-Jane Chapin Mastrobattista and resident of Farmington, CT. Born in Farmington on June 28, 1931, he is the son of Domenico and Josephine (Verardi) Mastrobattista. He attended Noah Wallace School and St. Thomas Seminary, graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tau Beta Pi honor society, treasurer of Beta Theta Pi and completed an M.B.A at the University of Connecticut. In his early career he worked at Hamilton Standard and retired after 40 years from Chandler Evans, a division of Colt Industries in West Hartford, CT. In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, John leaves behind his son, John David Mastrobattista, M.D. of New York City and his daughter Mary-Jane Wood of Redding, CT, her husband Nicholas Wood and adored grandchildren, Kiera and Jack. He also leaves his brothers, Alexander and Rocco of Farmington, CT and sister, Mary Love of Washington, DC. During his life he served on Farmington town committees, the board of the Farmington Visiting Nurse Association, as mentor of at-risk youth, member of the Old Guard and member of St. Peter Claver parish. John was a masterful landscaper and gardener and used both to create a beautiful, private retreat for his family. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed. Friends and Family are invited to call on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 5pm-8pm at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11am at the Chapel of Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Road, West Hartford, CT. A reception will follow. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Farmington. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities-Early Childhood Services, 839 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105, ccaoh.org.
