MOLLOY, John Joseph
John Joseph Molloy, of Simsbury, died peacefully on Sunday, (January 27, 2013) after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. John was born in Glasgow, Scotland on Feb. 28, 1932, the son of the late Edward Molloy and Hannah (Trainer) Molloy. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Molloy. John was educated at Saint Mungo's Academy and Strathclyde University in Glasgow before emigrating to Canada, where he began a career as a research chemist. He moved his family to Simsbury in 1963 to work at Ensign Bickford Industries, where he remained for 40 years, until his retirement. John was an active member of the Simsbury Democratic Town Committee and participated in state and local politics for nearly 50 years, serving in several positions, including Justice of the Peace. He was a devout parishioner at St. Mary's church. John will be remembered for his limitless generosity and kindness, his sense of social justice, and his wit and intelligence. He loved golf, jazz, cigars, politics, crossword puzzles, the Hartford Whalers, the New York Giants, and was a life-long supporter of the Glasgow Celtic football club. Above all, John loved his family. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Moore Molloy and four children; Edward Molloy and his wife Elisabeth of Granby, Brian Molloy and his wife Wendy of Newtown, Jennifer (Molloy) Ryan and her husband Jeff of Simsbury, and Marjorie (Molloy) Malpiede and her husband John Malpiede of Needham, MA; his sisters, Ann (Molloy) Rich and her husband Arthur; Patricia (Molloy) Anderson, his double cousin, Richard Molloy, who has been a brother to him his entire life, and many devoted friends and relatives. His greatest legacy is his 10 beloved grandchildren; Katherine, Alison and William Molloy; Emily and Sam Molloy; John and Ailsa Ryan and Teddy, Michael and Jack Malpiede. John's family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Avon Health Center who cared for him with respect and kindness for the last 12 months - especially Dale Perry.
