NYSTROM, John F. John F. Nystrom, 78, a lifelong resident of East Longmeadow, MA. Ascended into the Journey of Eternal Life, Sunday (May 28,2006) at Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, MA. He was the beloved husband for 48 years to the late Carol (Long) Nystrom who predeceased him in 2000. John was born in Springfield, MA was a graduate of Technical High School, and attended Hilliard College, Western New England College, and the University of Hartford. He was a World War II, U.S. Navy Veteran. John also was a parishioner of St. Michael's Church, East Longmeadow, a member of the American Legion and The Vasa Order of America. John was active as a coach for Youth Baseball in the town of East Longmeadow. He was employed for 38 years at Combustion Engineering, Windsor, (now known as Asea Brown Boveri Inc.) . He retired in 1995 as Consulting Engineer Specializing in Data Acquisition and Control Systems. A dear brother, Victor Nystrom predeceased John. Lovingly, he will be remembered by his cherished children, a son, Eric Nystrom and wife Karen both of Longmeadow; a daughter, Lisa Mule and husband Bob both of Simsbury; a dear brother, Richard Nystrom of Ludlow, MA; two dear sisters, Linda Whitney of East Longmeadow and Norma Festa of Springfield; caring sister-in-law Patricia Pond, her son Lee LaPierre, and her husband, Rich all of Springfield, a caring brother-in-law, Thomas Long and his wife Mary both of Burlington, VT. He adored and was a devoted ''Papa'' to his four treasured grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Nicole and Jack. His funeral service will be held on Friday, June 2, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Willow Chapel of the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, followed by a procession to St. Michael's Church, 110 Maple St., East Longmeadow for the celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. John will be laid to rest in the Baptist Village Cemetery, on Hampden Road (corner of Parker St.) in East Longmeadow, with the Honor of the U.S. Military. Calling hours will take place in the Willow Chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, June 1, from 4-8 p.m. For those who prefer, expressions of sympathy may be made to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, 282 Washington St., Hartford 06106 or to Shriner's Hospital, att: Donations 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA, 01104. John was one of the first people that I met when I joined Combustion Engineering 29 years ago. He taught me (and many others) much about engineering and corporate life. He was brutally honest, yet gentle and supportive, when asked for advice. John will be fondly remembered by all of us whose lives have been touched by him.

John was my supervisor for many years at Combustion Engineering and helped me to expand and grow in my profession. John was a great co-worker, a great supervisor, and most of all a wonderful person. My sympathies to his family for their loss.

Sorry to hear the sad news. I worked with John from 1982 until he retired. I hosted his retirement party. He was a good friend and mentor. He will be missed.
