John Rivera Obituary
John D. Rivera, 35, formerly of Portland, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 13, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. Born on July 7, 1979 in Meriden, he is the son of Euclid and Dineen (Coughlin) Rivera. John graduated from Portland High School, Class of 1998. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan who followed Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Boston Red Sox fan. Besides his parents, John is survived by his daughter Brianna J. Fitzpatrick of Unionville; a half sister Mary Cruz Ramos and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Christina Rivera. The family would like to thank the staff at UCONN Med Surge 5 and 60 West Nursing Home in Rocky Hill for the excellent care given to John. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday June 17, 2015 from 5pm until 7pm at the Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main Street, Portland. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. To send an online expression sympathy please visit www.portlandmemorialfh.net. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of John D. Rivera may be to the UCONN Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, 263 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT 06030.

Mr&Mrs Rivera,I am so sorry for the loss of your loving son John. I knew and was friends with John for a number of years and we eventually became roommates and best friends from 2013-2015.I was by John's side during the most difficult times in his life and I am so blessed to have been able to do this. John taught us all so many lessons about life.He taught us about love,friendship strength,commitment,loyalty and the list goes on and on.One of Johns greatest strengths was his love for his family starting with his daughter,parents and siblings.On June 19th the world lost an amazing person but in return god blessed all of us with an angel and I will be forever grateful.. Rest In Peace my Brother
