Jose A. Pina

Jose A. Pina, 80, beloved husband of Maria (Castelhano) Pina, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 17, 2018. He was born in Guimarães de Tavares, Portugal, the son of Jose M. Pina and Adelina Rosa (de Jesus) Pina. He resided in the greater Hartford area for many years and was in the construction industry with several companies. Jose was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Portuguese Club of Hartford, and Laborers Union # 230. Jose also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, watching soccer and attending his grandchildren's soccer games as well as making wine. Besides his loving wife he is survived by his daughters, Lori P. Rich and her husband Scott, of Bolton and Teresa Pina Romero and her husband Ed, of South Windsor, his grandchildren, Olivia, Jacob, Tyler and Carson his brother Vitor Pina and his wife Maria, of Newington and his sisters, Amelia Gaspar, of Newington, and Ariete Gatewood and her husband Richard of East Hartford. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ilda da Costa and Lidia Cabral. His funeral service will be held Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St., Hartford. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 20, from 5:00 – 8:00 at Newington Memorial. Entombment will take place at Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Hartford.
