Joseph Campbell Obituary

Joseph A. Campbell, 67, of South Windsor, loving husband of Elaine (Petersen) Campbell, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020, shortly after a diagnosis of a rare aggressive gallbladder cancer. Joe was born on September 2, 1952, son of the late Roland Campbell and Evelyn (Burke) Williamson. He grew up in Litchfield and was a graduate of Litchfield High School, Class of 1970. Joe attended Post Junior College for two years and after receiving his associates degree, he went on to receive his bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, and Finance at Central Connecticut State University. He then worked in accounting at Bridgeport Community College, John Dempsey Hospital, and Waterbury Hospital. While at Waterbury, he obtained his master's degree from Rensselaer in Healthcare Management. Joe then went on to Danbury Hospital where he worked in Quality and Corporate Compliance for 18 years. Joe was also Adjunct Professor, teaching courses at Post Community College and Western Connecticut State University. He retired in 2018 as Chief Compliance, Audit & Privacy Officer at Western Connecticut Health Network. Following retirement, Joe founded Campbell Healthcare Compliance Consulting, where he continued developing programs for hospital organizations, including Gaylord Hospital/Hospital for Special Care; most recently, he accepted a position at Eskanazi Health in Indianapolis. Joe was married to the love of his life Elaine for 42 years and together they raised their three children Megan, Drew, and Alex. Joe has always had a great sense of adventure, which he embraced through his love of travel across Europe, skiing glaciers in Iceland, exploring his heritage in Scotland, safari in Namibia, hiking Mt. Washington, among many others. Joe was also an expert skier and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren on their yearly vacations in the White Mountains. He also volunteered his time in the church, as a Boy Scout leader, and a soccer coach. Joe was especially known for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity, as well as his positive attitude and strong work ethic. In addition to his wife, Joe leaves his children Dr. Megan (Campbell) Marsh and her husband David of South Windsor, Andrew Campbell and his wife Madeline of Hartford, and Alexander Campbell and his wife Katlyn of Cohasset, MA; and his grandchildren, Maxwell, Olive, Finley, Claire, Violet, Alexander, and Leo. Joe also leaves his siblings Theresa Campbell, Wendell Campbell and his wife Denise, Lona Parsons, and David Williamson and his wife Sue. In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his stepfather Edward Williamson. A Memorial Service will be held in Joe's honor on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor.
