"THE TIDE"
The tide recedes, but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle warmth
...still lingers on the land.
The music stops, yet echoes on
in sweet, soulful refrains.
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains."

Even when we first met as kids, Jay was obviously a special person. His constant, genuine smile let you know you were always welcome, accepted and never judged. Jay's presence made you feel better, and even more hopeful to know that he valued you, regardless of your own faults. The impact Jay had on me as a self-conscious kid was remarkable, and I've never forgotten it. I was blessed to see Jay again a few years ago, and none of his wonderful qualities had faded in the least. The smile I remembered vividly from my early teens was even more brilliant, especially in his eyes, where a smile really matters. I can only imagine the depth and intensity of loss felt by Ruth, Judy, and friends of Jay who saw him constantly throughout his life. I pray that each of you are able to hold very tightly to the joy that Jay brought you, and celebrate his truly meaningful life. There is no doubt that Jay was taken home so soon because, like us, God felt the need to be closer to Jay's wonderful and sincere heart and soul.
