PALYS, Joseph John Jr.

Joseph John Palys Jr., 79, of New Britain, CT, passed to eternal rest, July 24, 2012 at Jerome Home, New Britain, CT. Joseph was born in New Britain, and was the son of the late Joseph J. Palys, Sr. and Mary (Plewa) Palys. Joseph was a graduate of E. C. Goodwin Tech and New Britain High School. At Goodwin Tech, he captained the basketball team and played on its baseball team. After graduation he accepted a position as a draftsman at Tuttle & Bailey Inc., in New Britain. He then voluntarily joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. After discharge, Joseph took advanced courses in Tool Design and accepted a position at Bristol Machine Tool as a tool designer. Subsequently, he worked for Atlantic Machine Tool-Textron Inc., in Newington, for 36 years, retiring as Supervisor of ECM/EDM Machining and the Tool Room. After retirement Joseph travelled for several years throughout Florida, playing golf both there and at the Stanley Senior Golf Club in New Britain. In his younger years, he was an avid and talented bowler, as well as a bowling instructor in Ten-Pin Bowling at the Newington Bowl-O-Rama. Joseph loved to fish and fly fished extensively at area streams and rivers throughout Connecticut, New York and Vermont. He was a member of the Sprague Rod and Gun Club, the Housatonic Fly Fisherman's Club, the American Legion, the New Britain Senior Center and AARP. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 59 years, Dorothy (Ahern) Palys of New Britain, his two wonderful sons, Joseph J. Palys, III and his wife Suzanne of Oxford, CT, and Major Thomas J. Palys, US Army Medical Department, and his wife Regina of Silver Spring, MD, his seven grandchildren, and his two sisters, Jean Sharka of New Britain, and Lucy Hinton of Colchester, CT. Joseph was predeceased by his beloved brother Chester Palys, his wonderful sister Helen (Palys) Dawidczyk and his brother-in-law, Henry Dawidczyk.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Mr. Palys' Life to be held on Wednesday August 1, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley Street, New Britain, Ct. Burial with full military honors will be private in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, CT. The American Flag will be presented to Joe's wife Dorothy. There are no calling hours. The Paul A. Shaker/ Farmingdale Funeral Home, 764 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT has charge of arrangements.
