Karen I. Brodersen

Karen I. Brodersen, 74, of Newington, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016. Born in New York City, daughter of the late Richard and Ellen (Beck) Brodersen, she was first generation American and raised in Queens, NY. She previously lived in Florida, caring for her parents prior to moving to Newington in 1982. She was employed at The Travelers Insurance Co. and various other jobs prior to her retirement in 2004. Karen was a member of the Church of Christ, Congregational in Newington since 1992 and was involved in the Church's choir and other various activities. She was also a former member of the Eastern Star in NY, the Travelers Choral Club, and past President of the Deerfield Condo Board of Directors. She was always willing to help whenever she could and was there for whoever needed her. Karen loved to spoil all of the Dachshunds she owned during her lifetime, Butch, Kim, Schnaps, Heidi and Schatz. She leaves many cousins in the U.S. and Germany. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10th, at 1 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Congregational, 1075 Main St., Newington, CT 06111. She will be laid to rest in Florida. There will be no calling hours. Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is serving her family. Memorial donations may be made in Karen's memory to the church.
