Karl Stieg Obituary



Karl Henry Stieg, 70, of Agawam, Massachusetts, died peacefully at his home surrounded by some of his loved ones on May 21, 2015. He was born October 9, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. Karl grew up in Hartford, Connecticut, graduated from Hartford High School, attended the University of New Haven, University of Hartford, and served in the Army for 4 years. Karl worked for The New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, Conrail, and retired from Pan Am Railway. Karl was a former Justice of the Peace, former Board Member of the University of Connecticut Thomas J. Dodd Archive Research Center. He was also a member of the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association, and member of the Agawam Historical Commission. Karl was predeceased by his father, Henry Stieg and his mother, Helen Chaplin Stieg. Karl is survived by his loving wife Judy Foster Stieg of 32 happy years, of Agawam, Massachusetts; his son, Scott Stieg of Eugene, Oregon, and his daughter, Elizabeth Stieg of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his three sisters, Jean Marie Manning and husband George of Long Beach, California; Gail Donley of Hampstead, North Carolina, and Starzie Mayer and husband Bruce of Mendham, New Jersey; and many loving family members and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday (May 24) at 2:00pm in Center Cemetery, Spielman Highway, Burlington, Connecticut with Rev. John Endler officiating. Donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. I remember Karl very well not only from highschool but his parents lived next door to my grandparents on Sprague St. And we often played together as kids. So very sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to the family.

I was shocked to hear of Karl's passing. He was a very good friend of mine growing up in Hartford in the 50s and 60s and 70s. I lost track of him and am sorrowful to hear this news. My deepest condolences to Judy and his family.

I very sorry to here of karls passing
i had a wonderful time working with him at the 75 anniverasy meeetings at the connecticut trolley museum and talking about his dad in the early years of the museum when it was incorporated

our hearts are in so much pain in
