Kenneth Weeks Obituary

Kenneth W. Weeks, Jr., of Bloomfield, formerly of Farmington and West Hartford died on September 29, 2023. He was born in Hartford on January 30, 1933, son of the late Kenneth W. Weeks and Helen (Sparrow) Weeks. He graduated from Loomis Chafee School and Babson College. He served as an officer aboard USS Saline County (LST 1101) for 3 years in San Diego and the Pacific. Upon return to Connecticut, Ken worked with his father until the latter's death in 1966, at which time he became President of Walton Company, international supplier of specialized metalworking hand tools. He retired in 1998. Ken enjoyed small boat sailing and woodworking, including boat building. In recent years he enjoyed summering in Round Pond, ME. He served his community in a number of volunteer endeavors, including many positions in Hartford Power Squadron, including Commander; as a Commodore of the Hamburg Cove Yacht Club; delivering Meals on Wheels; as a member of and performing various services at Emanuel Lutheran Church; as a Director and President for many years of Leonard Weeks and Descendants in America, Inc. in Greenland, NH, overseeing the ancestral home and conservation easement land.

Ken was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Sarah (Bergeson) Weeks, formerly of Portland, CT. He leaves a son Kenneth W. (Skip) Weeks III and Denise (Champion) Weeks of Collinsville, with grandson Niels Van Lohuizen; daughter Wendy Katrina (Weeks) Frisch and Peter O. Frisch, with grandchildren Maxwell M. Junda, Alexander N. Junda, Jake T. Junda, and Hannah O. Frisch of Swampscott, MA; and son Frank E. Weeks and Yannina Manjarres-Weeks, with grandsons Finneas E. Weeks Manjarres and Eames S. Weeks Manjarres of Santa Monica, CA. He was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn (Weeks) Barter of Old Saybrook.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 11:00 am, at First Church of West Hartford, 12 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to: The Carpenter's Boat Shop, 440 Old County Rd., Pemaquid, ME 04558. This 501(c)3 is based on a program where apprentices spend a year healing their hurts, rethinking their dreams, and finding new directions, all while using their hands to build beautiful boats. Alternately, please consider a contribution to Camp Calumet Lutheran, P.O. Box 236, West Ossipee, NH 03890.
